AEM / VAMAC®
Ethylene / Acrylic
AEM (Acrylic Elastomer) or VAMAC (Vinyl Acrylic and Ethylene Interpolymer Elastomer) is highly versatile material and widely used in various industries. Known for its exceptional resistance to heat, oil, chemicals, and weathering, AEM/VAMAC is favored for applications that require durability and resilience. Its excellent mechanical properties enable it to withstand extreme temperatures and harsh environmental conditions without compromising performance. Furthermore, AEM/VAMAC exhibits excellent resistance to compression set, making it ideal for sealing applications. With its robust nature and exceptional resistance properties, AEM/VAMAC continues to play a vital role in numerous industries, ranging from automotive and oil & gas to aerospace and industrial manufacturing.
Features and Benefits:
AEM / Vamac has been being used as a new, modern alternative to HNBR, this is because of how much more cost effective it is. It can also be a great replacement for standard NBR, while actually having a lower and higher operating temperatures. This is while still having a great oil resistance. As stated, AEM / Vamac has a great resistance to oils, it also is very resistant types of greases, condensates, transmission fluids, coolants and new E-fluids.
The low temperature capabilities of AEM / Vamac are much better than other kinds of elastomers that are able to withstand the same level of heat and oils. Certain AEM / Vamac compounds can have a temperature range as low as -50°C, with others being able to have a high of +175°C. This material is also very good at managing to keep its sealing properties while it is under compression and has excellent resistance to air, ozone and weather aging.
AEM / Vamac is often used in the automotive industry, this is because of its excellent resistance to high heat, sunlight aging and ozone. As well as its low permeability to gas and good resistance to swelling while in oils.
Summary:
Very cost effective compared to other widely used elastomers
Great temperature range of -50°C to +175°C
Excellent resistance to air, ozone and weather aging
Great resistance to oils and other fluids (motor oils, greases, acid condensates)
